One of my readers wrote in a question, and I’d like to share the answer here for you.
Q: How does the weight go on so quickly when I eat crap and don’t exercise - and yet when I’m eating way less and exercising again it takes sooo long to come back off?
A: There are a lot of factors at play here. Based on my experience working with people, I'm going to guess at what might be going on. It's likely an effectiveness issue. Most people are great at eating crap and being off track. As in, there's no skillset required to do this well.
On the other hand, most people are very unskilled at working out effectively. Choosing the right exercises, putting them in the right order, on the right days, and advancing their progress. People THINK they know how exercise works or how to be effective at it, but that's very rarely true. I've watched people show up at the gym religiously for 6 years or 8 years or more and see no outward results. BECAUSE they're working out very ineffectively. It truly is an art and a science.
So like most people, you're probably a lot better at doing one side (the eating crap part) as opposed to the being fit part, which is why it may seem that the one side is an uphill battle.
Remember that it's absolutely possible to learn how to be effective at this. It's not a secret or anything, and a lot of the concepts in the ebook, How to Lose 20 Pounds, what to do (and what not to do!) to lose weight once and for all, will outline the steps to take and the simple changes to implement to be more effective.
One woman who bought the book lost about 10lbs in 6 weeks. She felt it was SO doable. She feels she now has the tools to lose more weight and/or get right back on track any time she slips up.
